Natural Therapies (Modalities)

Therapeutic Nutrition: Hippocrates said, “let your food be your medicine and your medicine be your food.” Food is one of our most powerful tools to maintain health, prevent and treat disease. There are vast applications for food and pharmaceutical-grade nutrients, and this is a first line therapy at Centro Naturopático.

Environmental Medicine/Detoxification: Today we live in a world that is full of pollutants, toxins, heavy metals, synthetic hormones and a wide variety of other chemicals. Sometimes our detoxification systems can be overwhelmed and we become sick: our thinking gets fuzzy, we have fatigue, pain, react strongly to odors, lights or noise. Detoxification is a normal human body process that should happen continuously throughout our lives. It is the removal of these chemicals, hormones, metabolic waste products, and indigestible food products from the body. The liver is our primary organ for detoxification. It processes all the foods, chemicals, and drugs that enter our bodies. Other organs involved in detoxification are the kidneys, colon, skin, and lungs. Environmental medicine aids the body in metabolizing and excreting compounds from the environment that have made you ill. There are a variety of ways to accomplish this, we are happy to discuss them with you.

Botanical Medicine: Botanical medicine, plant medicine, or herbal medicine, is the use of whole plants and plant extracts for their medicinal effects. There are several schools of herbalism deriving from various cultures around the world with a wide array of very rich and ancient traditions. This ancient system of medicine is actually the basis of many modern pharmaceutical drugs. When using a whole plant or extract, there are less side-effects and generally the metabolism of these is much different than that of an isolated constituent. The uses of these plants comes from traditional knowledge passed down by the indigenous people of the land and in modern day is supported with research and evidence supporting new and different uses of the plants for medicine. Herbal medicine can be used in a variety of complaints ranging from the common cold to digestive complaints and endocrine dysfunction. We are educated about the proper application and safety of herbs and use them when necessary.

Homeopathy: A system of medicine designed over 200 years ago based on the principle “like cures like”. Homeopathy is a natural, nontoxic therapeutic system of healing that assists in the inherent ability of the body to heal itself. Homeopathic medicines or "remedies" use minute amounts of plant, mineral or animal substances to stimulate a person's innate healing ability and to strengthen the entire system. During the homeopathic intake we look at the totality of all the characteristics of the client and find the remedy that most fits those characteristics. Homeopathy is a safe and profound medicine that works especially well with children.

Functional Medicine: A science-based field of healthcare that is grounded in the principles of biochemical individuality (we are all different, and our bodies respond differently from one another), client-centered care (rather than managing a disease), a dynamic, flowing balance of internal and external factors, a web-like interconnectedness of physiologic factors (rather than many separate parts functioning on their own) and health as a positive vitality, rather than the absence of disease. Functional medicine seeks to optimize health and increase the quality and length of life.

Exercise Therapy: Movement is life. Once movement stops, life ceases. In today's society, we tend to eat more and move less. Appropriately applied exercise can aid in weight loss, balancing hormones, pain reduction, improved mobility, mood and cognition.

Lifestyle Counseling: Your lifestyle refers to your eating, drinking, sleeping, working and thinking habits; where you work and live; how you deal with stress; how you deal with relationships, and the like. The way you live your life is a determining factor in your health. We are ready to meet you where you are at, whether you need suggestions for better eating, creating more time and space in your life or how to change negative and destructive thought patterns.

Counseling: Mental attitudes and emotions are important elements in overall health and should be considered when treating illness and disease. As part of our holistic education, naturopathic physicians are trained in various counseling techniques. Counseling offers support for those dealing with depression, work-related stress, relationship issues, life transitions, and health problems, particularly chronic health problems.

Physical Medicine

Hydrotherapy: Water is an incredible healing medium. The application of heat, cold or an alternation of both can be used to treat inflammation, stimulate the immune system, detoxify the body and much more. One treatment called constitutional hydrotherapy, an older method of stimulating the body’s vital force, involves alternate applications of hot and cold water to promote circulation of the blood and the lymphatic system.

Cranio-Sacral Therapy (CST): CranioSacral Therapy (CST) is a form of bodywork that focuses on the CranioSacral system and fascial system of the body. CST is powerful, non-invasive wellness work done with a light touch that operates on the body down to the cellular level. This therapy involves assessing and addressing the movement of the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF), which can be restricted by trauma to the body, such as through falls, accidents, and general nervous tension. By gently working with the spine, the skull, and its cranial sutures, diaphragms, and fascia, the restrictions of nerve passages are eased, the movement of CSF through the spinal cord can be optimized, and misaligned bones are said to be restored to their proper position.

Soft Tissue Manipulation: Gentle stretching and muscular releases can relieve many forms of musculoskeletal pain, especially back and neck pain. Soft tissue manipulation is a powerful therapy in musculoskeletal pain.

Acutonics: The Acutonics Healing System is an energy-based non-invasive treatment that is similar to acupuncture. Precision calibrated tuning forks are applied to specific acupuncture and acupressure points to access the body's Meridian and Chakra energy systems. These tuning forks represent a natural harmonic series based on the orbital properties of the Earth, Moon, Sun and planets. Their rich resonance and vibration connects with and supports the body's natural frequencies. It brings us into alignment with the cycles of the Cosmos known since antiquity as the Music of the Spheres. The tuning fork is struck on an Acutonics® Acuvator then placed on the body or held near the ears. The sound waves of the forks vibrate and travel deeply into the body along energy pathways, affecting human physiology and reaching places not easily accessed by traditional medicine. Applying the forks stimulates and balances the body's physical and subtle energy field to promote healing and inner harmony. Listening to the forks speaks to us deeply by connecting with our vestibular system, within the inner ear canal, and accessing our sense of motion, balance, space, memory, and healing.
